Service Information
Gen 1 Maintenance Manual (January 2018, English)
Detailed service information can be found in the Gen 1 Maintenance Manual (January 2018, English) on the Documents page.
The BYD e6 is a fully electric vehicle and requires significantly less routine maintenance than petrol or diesel vehicles. There are no engine oil changes, spark plugs, air filters, or exhaust components. Regular servicing focuses on inspection, brakes, cooling systems, tyres, and a small number of lubricants.
Service Schedule
Every 10,000 km (or 6 months)
General inspection service.
- Tyre pressure and condition
- Brake pads and discs
- Suspension components
- Steering system
- 12-volt auxiliary battery condition
- High-voltage cables and connectors
- Cooling system fluid levels
- Exterior lights and electrical systems
- Windscreen washer system
Every 20,000 km
In addition to the 10,000 km checks:
- Rotate tyres
- Inspect drive shafts and CV boots
- Clean and lubricate brake calipers (important because regenerative braking reduces brake use)
Every 25,000 km
- Replace reduction gearbox oil
Capacity: 3.7 litres. Specification: SAE 80W-90 gear oil (75W-90 acceptable in cold climates).
Every 40,000 km
- Replace cabin air filter
- Replace brake fluid (DOT-4)
- Inspect cooling system hoses and pumps
Every 80,000 km
- Replace electric motor lubricant (Mobil ATF220 or equivalent, 2 L)
- Replace motor / inverter coolant
- Inspect battery cooling components
Every 100,000 km
- Full suspension inspection
- Inspect wheel bearings
- Inspect steering system

Practical Ownership Notes
- Electric vehicles place less wear on brakes, but the calipers should still be cleaned periodically to prevent sticking.
- Gearbox oil changes are important for long-term durability.
- Cooling systems should always be kept full and clean, as they manage the temperature of the motor and electronics.
- The vehicle's high-voltage battery requires no routine servicing, but diagnostic checks can be performed during major services.
